EDU Standard Question Types

At a minimum, every online system should have these question types:

Multiple Choice – the workhorse of question types. Our item analysis can help refine these questions to make them better descriminators of performance.

Multiple Selection – this type requires the user to identify more than one correct answer and avoid incorrect responses. Some congantive scientists feel that multiple selection questions force students to demonstrate depth of concept comprehension to a degree multiple choice questions do not.

Short Answer / Essay – the only type not self-graded, short answer questions are still very effective question types. When included in an assignment or exam, the student will not receive immediate feedback and the instructor is prompted to correct the assignment manually.

Fill-in-the-blank/Drop down menu – this question type is popular with language skills assessment.

Clickable Image – clickable image questions present an image with a number of "hotspots." Students are required to identify the correct image element by clicking on the corresponding hotspot. An EDU web-based authoring tool makes creating these questions quite easy.

Matching elements in two lists – another version of multiple selection, this type is also popular in soft disciplines.

True-False – this type is the most basic form of multiple choice … either true or false.

You can combine these question types within a single question depending upon the complexity of the concept tested and your pedagogical intent.

EDU can algorithmically generate content in any of its question types.
